Molly Malouf was stressed, hemicrany burned and faces, her third year of medical school of medicine in Peoria at the College of the University of Illinois.
It found that healing through integrative medicine, a practice that combines traditional Western medicine with the best evidence-based practice in complementary and alternative medicine.
Integrative medicine is the patient-a lifestyle choice and mind body connection.
Malouf, which ends in may, would like to share with other medical students learned and know more. It invited Dr. Michel Couri, one of the leading integrative physicians in Central Illinois, take part in a series of lectures for medical students.
The lecture was attended by some 40 Couri medical students and a number of later commented that the material is new to them, are not covered by the medical school curriculum. Several students had ever heard of Dr. Andrew Weil, pioneer of integrative medicine.
Couri, a graduate of the University of Illinois College of medicine at Peoria will finish in December two-year fellowship with Weyl in Arizona Center for integrative medicine, University of Arizona. She was in private practice in Peoria for more than 10 years.
"Integrative medicine looks at solutions that are not managed by pharmaceutically Couri said.
Principles of macronutrition applied to prevention. Anti-inflammatory diet is fundamental for integrative medicine, said Couri.
It revised its Office in 6708 n. Knoxville Ave. was once the traditional practice of obstetrics and gynaecology at Couri Centre for Gynecology and integration on women's health.
It takes the power of history with all patients and discusses how to move toward anti-inflammatory diet. Monthly cooking courses cover topics from pure food, soups and raw foods in gluten free food, vegetarian and vegan diets and cooking holiday.
All specialists are working in concert.
Medicine in this country is not the result of profit-driven initiative. We bow before the "Big Pharma", "Couri said during an interview at the Centre.
This does not mean she gave on Western medicine and drugs. She explains that she "has expanded its tools to help patients heal. It still offers traditional treatments and surgical services, including prostitutes, but it also looks at food as medicine.
"Integrative medicine should serve as a model for medicine to be sustainable."The burden of chronic diseases is the bankruptcy of our system, "she said, explaining that diet and exercise, low tech, low-cost ways to avoid diseases.
The risk of developing diabetes, heart disease, cancer and even Alzheimer's disease anti-inflammatory diet decreases, Couri.
In his lecture, "food is medicine," Couri led a study that for every 20 per cent increase in the consumption of fruit and vegetables that 20 per cent reduction in cancer risk. But for each 20-percent increase in cruciferous vegetables lower risk of cancer by 40 percent.
"Good food you can basically change or functions of our genes," it said. "Good food can turn off genes. Good food, you can change as the disease progresses. "
Couri said that doctors are essentially teachers for their patients. She recently saw patients with severe rheumatoid arthritis. The woman was in constant pain.
"I asked her if any doctor ever talked with her on a diet. She said no. She did not know about the anti-inflammatory diet. I don't know how to choose products can influence its pain. Didn't know the difference between good fats and bad fats, "said Couri.
The typical American diet is a very pro inflammatory. Anti-inflammatory diet is a hybrid of the Mediterranean diet and the Japanese Diet ".
Couri recommends that patients avoid handling, finished products. She said food, often labeled "low fat" remove fat and replace it with pro inflammatory carbohydrates.
